The Sexiest Major 13 Voicing I Know
Become a PianoPig member at bit.ly/PianoPigAcademy
DOWNLOAD NOTATION: bit.ly/UA-camVault
This is a beautiful voicing on the piano you can play for major chords. It's a major 13 and it has a very modern, open and sparse sound to it.
It's constructed using 5ths and there's a great little trick you can do to easily remember how to play the voicing (watch the video to find out!).
As always, practice taking it through all the keys and using it in the context of tunes.
Happy practicing!

It's easy to play, easy to remember and such a great voicing to have under your fingers. It's a 13#11 and it's constructed using an upper structure triad. I know this is an older video, but I just wanted to thank you so much for quickly showing what to do if the reach is too much. I leave so many tutorials depressed, after realizing there's no way I could play them.... and they offer no advice as to which is the best sub. It probably seems obvious to some, but for others (myself included) it is just confusing and depressing. So, from someone who's dedicated a massive amount of time to piano, thank you from the bottom of my heart for including our limitations in your tutorials. It means a lot.

Great video! If I am playing just basic chords example G, EM, C, D without dominant 7 chords can this still apply? For instance if I am moving from G to an Em, would B be a passing chord? And if it is chromatic would my passing chord be F? Thank you I am a complete beginner.😊

Terrific lesson. Perfectly lays it out is simple terms. So many guys get caught up in their own cleverness when making tutorials that they complicate the issue further. And they take 20 minutes to do it! I'd recommend this video to anyone who wanted to get an understanding of how to us ethe altered scale.

Would have been good perhaps to have explained that you're using extensions 9 and 13 - though maybe that would complicate at this stage. Maybe do a second linked one then that does explain the basic theory behind what you're doing. Just a thought to enhance this excellent video which has given me loads of thoughts of how to advance my playing on chord progressions
